what is different about
an austrian shop

A Shopify store for Austria differs technically hardly at all from a German one, but noticeably in four places: payment methods, because Austrian buyers expect eps; shipping, because almost every shop also delivers to Germany; legal pages, because many templates come with German law; and tax, because deliveries within the EU switch to the local rate above a threshold. Overlook those four and you lose orders without knowing why.

Four places where it differs
Payment methodsTypical in DEInvoice, direct debit, PayPalNeeded in ATeps is a must, plus cards and Klarnaeps is the familiar online bank transfer in Austria and is included with Shopify Payments by default. A shop without eps feels like a foreign provider to Austrian buyers.
ShippingTypical in DEone rate, one countryNeeded in ATcalculate AT and DE separatelyAlmost every Austrian shop also ships to Germany, where different rates and delivery times apply. Using one combined rate loses you either margin or orders.
Legal pagesTypical in DEGerman right of withdrawalNeeded in ATAustrian distance selling actMany Shopify templates come with German legal texts. In Austria those are not wrong but not fitting either. We have the texts checked by your lawyer or the chamber of commerce and build them in cleanly.
Price displayTypical in DE19 % VATNeeded in AT20 % and separate ratesFor deliveries to private customers in other EU countries, the local rate applies above a turnover threshold. Shopify can handle that but has to be set up correctly, and that is exactly what often gets overlooked.

what a shopify store
costs in austria

A basic shop with a standard template and up to fifty products starts at 3,000€. With custom design, individual sections and special features the range is 6,000€ to 12,000€, and 15,000€ is realistic at the top. On top come the fees to Shopify itself: currently 32€ per month on Basic, 92€ on Grow and 384€ on Advanced.

The Shopify fees do not go to us, and they change from time to time. We name them anyway, because they belong in an honest total and tend to get left out of quotes. For the vast majority of Austrian merchants the Basic plan is enough for years.

I write the quote, I design, I build. You do not get an account manager standing between you and the work, you talk to the same person from the first question until after launch.

If something does not make sense, I say so, even when that makes the project smaller. In the long run that is more pleasant for both sides. For the start of a shop I am happy to sit down with you once, that saves two weeks later.

why an agency
from austria

A Shopify store can be built anywhere, the expertise is international. What is not international are the four points above. A German agency will build you an excellent shop that forgets eps, calculates one shipping rate for Austria and Germany and brings legal texts on a German template. None of that is a mistake in the narrow sense, but each of them costs orders.

What we are not: an agency with twenty Shopify projects a year. We build few shops and keep looking after them afterwards. If you need a partner for a project with several parallel workstreams and a fixed deadline, we say so beforehand.

In Austria yes, if you sell to private customers. eps is the familiar online bank transfer and comes with Shopify Payments by default, it only has to be switched on. A shop without eps feels like a foreign provider to Austrian buyers, and that costs orders without you seeing it in any statistic.

On the shop itself little, the expertise is international. The difference lies in four points: eps as a payment method, separate shipping rates for Austria and Germany, legal pages on an Austrian rather than a German template, and the correct tax setup for deliveries within the EU. None of that is a mistake in the narrow sense, but each of them costs orders.

No, and nobody should promise you that. We are not legal advisers. We tell you which texts you need and where they belong, and build them in cleanly. You should have them checked by your lawyer or through the chamber of commerce, which offers template documents for it.

For the vast majority of Austrian merchants the Basic plan is enough for years, currently 32€ per month or 24€ paid annually. The Grow plan at 92€ only pays off once you need more detailed analytics. These prices change from time to time, because they come from Shopify and not from us.
